[9:25 AM] square pegs right?
[9:25 AM] that metaphor comes up often and i love it
[9:25 AM] i mean i can visualize 4-dimensionality in my head
[9:25 AM] it's just abstract
[9:25 AM]: but it's the idea of something having a persistent "state" across time
[9:25 AM] or i mean
[9:25 AM] changing state?
[9:26 AM] ahh it's hard to really say right but i mean
3D is the only "tangible" kind of space we can understand
[9:26 AM] but even that is very limited
[9:26 AM] spacetime distortion, right?
[9:26 AM] so math has to work around that
[9:26 AM] which came after the fact
[9:27 AM] the world has always been as it is and math has to deal with the fact that sometimes they assumed things that were wrong
[9:27 AM] same as the geocentric worldview
[9:27 AM] no things don't revolve around the earth silly
[9:27 AM] it doesn't have enough mass!
[9:27 AM] but then we're like oh no that's not enough of an explanation is it
[9:28 AM] and then my friends take PhDs in astrophysics and come back to tell me about gaseous clouds in the vicinity of black holes

[9:28 AM] ok listen. it's simple. 4th dimension is "time", but "time" is entropy
[9:28 AM] when time is stopped, entropy doesn't happen, right?
[9:29 AM] when things stop moving, they get colder, so theoretically, if the entire universe froze to 0K, everything would just be still
[9:29 AM] nothing could move, it'd be an eternal freeze-frame that you could only perceive from the outside
[9:29 AM] because if you're inside, time would stand still
[9:29 AM] and you would stand still too
[9:29 AM] neurons wouldn't be firing, current wouldn't travel
[9:30 AM] and so that means
[9:30 AM] if a 4D "slice" viewed from the 5th dimension
[9:31 AM] same way as we see a 2D "slice" from our 3D perspective
[9:31 AM] that would just be a snapshot of time
[9:31 AM] and the entire 4th dimension of the universe would be the timeline as defined by entropy
[9:31 AM] BUT
[9:31 AM] as we know from quantum theory
[9:31 AM] entropy is decay and decay is random
[9:31 AM] right?
[9:32 AM] so that must be the 5th dimension
[9:32 AM] randomness
[9:32 AM] all possibilities are within the 5th dimension
[9:32 AM] which is why it's magic
[9:32 AM] a 5D "slice" would be all possible timelines as defined by entropic sequences
[9:33 AM] so if you were a 5th dimensional creature you would be omnipotent within our understanding of the world right now
[9:33 AM] because the thing we least understand is causality
[9:33 AM] why do random things happen
[9:33 AM]and the starfish knows
[9:33 AM] and we don't
[9:33 AM] and that's the scary part with gods
[9:33 AM] is that they know something we just CAN'T know
[9:33 AM] we CAN'T see beyond
[9:33 AM] does that make sense?
[9:33 AM] aha
[9:34 AM] i think about this stuff a lot...
[9:34 AM] to cope
[9:34 AM] and honestly
[9:34 AM] when i have a psychotic break
[9:34 AM] it's like i'm trying to fight entropy right?
[9:34 AM] i don't want to die
[9:34 AM] so i try to predict
[9:34 AM] using statistical probability
[9:34 AM] if i affect entropy in this way by doing this thing
[9:34 AM] what will happen as a reaction?
[9:35 AM] and that's what i think makes fifthists scary
[9:35 AM] is that they see all possibilities through the starfish
[9:35 AM] but those are different "timelines"
[9:35 AM] again, square pegs
[9:35 AM] if the starfish wanted to show us something
[9:36 AM] it'd be like us drawing a world of flat 2D figures
[9:36 AM] and then drawing something that's a representation of a 3D figure
[9:36 AM] ygwim?
[9:36 AM] like the
[9:36 AM] fuckin
[9:36 AM] horse
[9:36 AM] this is what i mean
[9:37 AM] it's like you would see possibilities mashed together
[9:37 AM] and arranged in a weird fucking way
[9:37 AM] so like yes this entire thing is "horse" but that is not a real horse that is a child's drawing
[9:37 AM] because the starfish made it for us
[9:37 AM] but it wasn't that good at drawing
[9:37 AM] because it exists above causality
[9:37 AM] ya get?
[9:37 AM] so it's ectoentropic
[9:38 AM] i.e. it can control entropy
[9:38 AM] in a limited sense
[9:38 AM] if we're using the drawing metaphor
[9:38 AM] which is the easiest one to understand for me personally
[9:38 AM] so this is like
[9:38 AM] the same idea as swann's proposal
[9:38 AM] and pataphysics in general
[9:38 AM] the starfish is an "author-entity"
[9:39 AM] in that it has control over the "narrative" i.e. can affect entropy
[9:39 AM] 8008 is i think one of the best examples of this
[9:39 AM] if you haven't read it yet i suggest you go read it posthaste
[9:39 AM] because it's what happens when an omnipotent entity is a complete fucking idiot
[9:40 AM] and i think that's the fun thing about fifthism
[9:40 AM] of course it doesn't understand us. it doesn't have to. do you understand how a pillbug feels? no you don't. do you think the sun cares about your feelings? fuck no
ENGINEER — Today at 9:41 AM
[9:41 AM] something powerful beyond our understanding doing shit like the starfish is, to me, the same as a child building a sandcastle or doing a crayon drawing
[9:41 AM] we are the paper, the canvas, whatever
[9:42 AM] and it just doesn't even see us as whole. we're just a constituent part of its existence
[9:42 AM] humans are like a natural law
[9:42 AM] and it doesn't even notice us enough to care
[9:42 AM] which is why people get stepped on
[9:42 AM] and squished
[9:42 AM] like a snail gets stepped on
[9:42 AM] or a jellyfish gets beached
